The news can be hard to watch these days. Human rights and dignity are under attack in many countries, including our own. Even here in New York, rights can be overturned depending on the political winds.

The good news is, there are ways to make a difference locally. This November on the back of the NY ballot voters will find a proposed NYS constitutional amendment. It ensures our rights and freedoms are permanently protected in the New York State constitution—no matter who is in office.

The amendment adds protections for people who experience discrimination. When we see state governments and courts walk rights backwards, this proposal pushes back by embedding explicit protections within our state constitution.
